Biography

I am currently a graduate research scholar in the Uncertainty Laboratory, Dept. of Applied Mechanics and in the Biomimetics and Dynamics Laboratory, Dept. of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Madras working with Dr. Sayan Gupta and Dr. Sunetra Sarkar.

The fascinating flapping flights of natural fliers have never failed to amaze me with their unique aerial acrobatics. The desire to explore the underlying physics behind flapping flights inspired me to remould myself from a practicing civil engineer to a fluid mechanician. I completed my graduation in Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India and received the University Gold Medal for securing the highest aggregate. However, I changed my area of interest and joined the Department of Applied Mechanics and the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India to pursue my doctoral research (MS+PhD) under the guidance of Dr. Sayan Gupta and Dr. Sunetra Sarkar in the broad area of fluid-structure interactions. Here, in IIT Madras, during my coursework in my PhD program, I credited courses relevant to my research from departments as varied as Physics, Mathematics, Applied Mechanics, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. My research focuses on understanding the unsteady aerodynamics and non-linear fluid-structure interaction dynamics of bio-inspired propulsion in the low Reynolds number regime. My work also has a centered focus on understanding the transitional flow dynamics past a flapping wing from the purview of dynamical system theories. My doctoral studies has resulted so far in 5 journals and 15 international conference publications.

Apart from research and academics, I enjoy painting and playing Guitar. I like to participate in various cultural programmes. I love swimming as well as playing chess, Table Tennis. Politically, I am neutral and I do not follow any religion, except perhaps science and humanity!
